Overview

Dr. Eugene Jones operated this Streamline Moderne dog and cat hospital for his well-to-do clients in West Los Angeles, including a number of movie stars. He opened the business in 1928, and hired the young architects, Walter Wurdeman and Welton Becket, both recent graduates of the University of Washington's Department of Architecture, to remodel and enlarge about ten years later. Dr. R. Nichol Smith, D.V.M, operated an canine hospital in the building for another 30 years, between 1951 and 1981. Wurdeman died early in his life, but Becket would go on to an illustrious career, building one of the most successful architectural practices of the 1950s and 1960s.
