Overview

In 1879 in San Francisco, there were three theatres known as the "Chinese Theatre." This one was located at 618 Jackson Street. Another, identified in the San Francisco, California, City Directory, 1879, as the "Chinese Theatre (New)" was located nearby at 623 Jackson. The same city directory listed the other as the "Chinese Theatre (Royal)," at 836 Washington. (See San Francisco, California, City Directory, 1879, p. 935.)
