Overview

Opening in 12/1923, this high school was originally a branch of the San Mateo School District, and served 350 students living in the rapidly growing San Francisco suburbs of San Bruno, Millbrae, Burlingame and Hillsborough. Burlingame incorporated in 1908, Hillsborough, 1910, San Bruno, 1914, and Millbrae, 1948, but these cities remained in the San Mateo Union High School District, rather than opening their independent high school systems. Thirty faculty were originally employed at Burlingame High School.
