According to the Evergreen Covenant Church's web site in 2017: "The church was started in the late 1950's by Swedish immigrants that were part of a denomination called the Evangelical Covenant Church (ECC). Fourteen senior pastors and six church names later, we are about 300 on Sundays in downtown Mercer Island." In 2017, the Evangelical Covenant Church was headquartered in Chicago, IL, and was founded by Swedish immigrants in 1885.

The firm of Waldron, Pomeroy, Polk and Smith, Architects, designed an addition to this church in 1980.
