Overview
In 1935, the National Bank of Commerce of Seattle maintained its Head Office at the intersection of 5th and Westlake Avenues in the center of Downtown Seattle. (See Seattle, Washington, City Directory, 1935, p. 1662.)
Building Notes
In 1908, the National Bank of Commerce of Seattle had the largest deposits of any bank in Seattle, with $10,600,000. It was the only bank in Seattle to have deposits of over $10 million, and only one of seven at that level on the West Coast. (See "Banks with Deposits of $10,000,000 and Above," Commercial West, vol. XIII, no. 2, 01/11/1908, p. 14.)
In 1937, the National Bank of Commerce of Seattle had its head office at 2nd Avenue and Spring Street, and maintained branches at 5th Avenue and Westlake Street (Central Branch) and at NE 45th Street and University Way NE (University Branch). It also had out of town WA branches in Olympia, Yakima, Centralia, Montesana, Bremerton, Aberdeen, Elma and Wapato. (See Seattle, Washington, City Directory, 1937, front cover.) In 1939, the bank maintained the same three Seattle offices but had out-of-town branches in Olympia, Yakima, Aberdeen, Wenatchee, Ellensburg, Centralia, Montesano, Bremerton, Elma and Wapato. In 1940, the NB of C again expanded its out-of-town locations to include Aberdeen, Bellingham, Bremerton, Centralia, Ellensburg, Elma, LaConner, Longview, Montesano, Olympia, Vancouver, Wapato, Waterville, Wenatchee, and Yakima.
