The 1st German Evangelical Lutheran Church was located on the north side of Greenwich Street, between Dupont and Stockton Streets. (See San Francisco City Directory, 1863, p. 504.)

Lutheran services in German were celebrated at this address every Sunday. According to the San Francisco City Directory, 1863, (p. 504): "There is, during the week, a day school for girls and boys in the same building under the charge of the Pastor." Church officers in 1863 included: Jacob Kramer, President; H.A. Butner, Secretary; L. Sneider, J. Hilke and John Michelais.
