Howard Hughes's Spruce Goose was placed within the wolrd's largest geodesic dome in 1983 as a tourist attraction on Long Beach Harbor, adjacent to the Queen Mary; the Spruce Goose was moved to a museum in McMinnville, OR in 1992; one-third of the dome was set aside to serve as a U.S. Customs and luggage-handling facility for a nearby Carnival Cruise Lines berth in 2001;
