Overview
In 1869, Jonathan Hunt served as the President and A.J. Ralston, Secretary, of the Pacific Insurance Company. The company owned its own building at 422 California Street. (See San Francisco, California, City Directory, 1869, p. 487.) Other insurance companies leased space at 422 California Street in the 1870s.
Building History
The Anglo-Californian Bank operated at 422 California Street in San Francisco, CA, from at least 1875 until 1878. (See The San Francisco Directory for the Year commencing March, 1875, p. 99 and San Francisco City Directory, 1878, p. 922.) By 1891, the Anglo-Californian Bank operated on the northeast corner of Sansome and Pine Streets. (See San Francisco Directory, 1891, p. 187.)
Building Notes
The Liverpool, London and Globe Life Insurance Company operated an office in San Francisco, CA, at 422 California Street in 1872. Its Los Angeles agent at that time was J.Q.A. Stanley. (See Los Angeles, California, City Directory, 1872, p. LVII.)
