Overview

In early 1857, the City of Sacramento contracted with architects G.H. Goddard and Augustus F. Eisen to design an entry gateway, tower and gate lodge to its new City Cemetery. (See "City Cemetery," Sacramento Daily Union, vol. 12, no. 1857, 03/10/1857, p. 2.)
