Overview
This two-floor, wood-frame restaurant was one of the first Anglo businesses to operate in Alhambra, CA, c. 1885. The building had a very simple front fenestration, with two fixed, plate-glass windows on either side of the main entry on the first floor, and two double-hung windows on the second, each with two-over-two lights.
Building History
H.W. Stanton renovated a former post office/grocery store into his restaurant. According to the City of Alhambra, " The upstairs hall was used as a church, school, community meetings, and entertainment gathering place. H. W. Stanton was the first storekeeper, postmaster, teacher, telephone agent, land subdivider and promoter. After subdividing several ranches he became wealthy and retired. He took a trip around the world, but upon his return to Alhambra found that the boom had gone bust, and he too was broke." (See City of Alhambra, "Links to Historic Photos," accessed 09/07/2016.)
