Overview
In 1877, Adrian X. Irizar took over management of the Bernard House, and, according to an advertisement in the San Francisco, California, City Directory, 1877, "...has rearranged everything to the comfort and accommodation of the guests." The ad continued, "The Street Cars pass the House, connecting with the various boars and trains for all parts of the State. Hacks are in attendance to convey guests to and from the depots or any place desired." (See San Francisco, California, City Directory, 1877, p. 464.)

An article in the San Jose Mercury-News of 02/20/1878 reported: “S.C. Farnham, of Vallejo, has bought the Bernard Block, the finest building in Vallejo, from the Hibernia Bank, San Francisco.” (See "Pacific Coast Brevities, San Jose Mercury-News, vol. XII, no. 137, 02/20/1878, p. 3.)
