Building Notes

In 1868, proprietor John Oschwald rented out "sample rooms" in the basement of the Masonic Hall to men, "...where can be found at all times the very best liquors, cigars and lager beer. A large and airy billiard and reading room. A good cold lunch is always on hand for the benefit of customers who may wish to partake." (See Masonic Hall sample rooms advertisement, Sacramento Daily Union, vol. 35, no. 5372, 06/15/1868, p. 4.)
