In 1888, the California Bank occupied the southwest corner of 2nd Street and Fort Street. Fort Street has been renamed "Broadway" by 1890.

Overview

In 1888, H.G. Newhall was the President, H.C. Witmer, the Vice-President, and T.J. Weldon the Cashier of the California Bank. It boasted capital of $300,000 in that year and had the following individuals on its board of directors: J. Frankenfield, Juan Bernard, Hervey Lindley, H.G. Newhall, J.C. Kays, E.W. Jones, and H.C. Witmer. The California Bank was one of the most remarkable Queen Anne Style commercial buildings in Los Angeles when built.
