Building History
Richard Spreckels erected this large Colonial Revival box in 1897. At the time, its style would have been seen as a simpler and more modern departure from the prevailing Queen Anne Style in San Francisco. According to a San Francisco real estate web site, the writer Jack London also resided at this address at one time.
In the 1960s, the top floor functioned as a sound studio, the Buena Vista Studios, where the Grateful Dead made some early recordings.
In later years, the actor Danny Glover resided here with his wife, Asaki Bomane, purchasing the house for $1,550,000. After their divorce, she retained the house in 2003. Bomane sold the house to 737 Buena Vista LLC for $10,000,000 on 10/20/2014.
