Overview
The local architect John Harrison Rudolph designed the Kitsap Regional Library's Bainbridge Island Branch in 1960-1961 and supervised its completion in 1962. Rudolph had previously designed a library for the City of Poulsbo, WA, before taking on the Bainbridge Island commission. He enjoyed library design, and offered to cut his rates in order to get the job from the Kitsap Regional Library administration. According to Barbara Winther writing in the Bainbridge Island Library News (Spring 2003), "He gave them a good deal, agreeing to deliver the plans for a reduced fee and to contribute inspection and consulting time." (As quoted in Verda Averill, Bainbridge Island Library News, 03/2012, p. 1.) The library opened to the public on 03/17/1962.
Alteration
The Kitsap Regional Library Branch on Bainbridge Island underwent a renovation in 1997. Following this renovation, the front doorway became the motif used for the library's logo. It suggested the library's openness to the general public.
