Overview

This hotel operated under at least two different names between 1895 and 1905: Hackmeier's Hotel and the United States Hotel.

Building History

Between 1893 and 1896, this hotel operated as "Hackmeier's Hotel" at 123 Eddy. (See Langley San Francisco Directory for the Year1893, p. 1604, Langley San Francisco Directory for the Year 1894, p. 649 and 1618 and Mrs. A. Hackmeier owned the hotel in 1894, while Adam E. Hackmeier lived in and managed the facility.

Perhaps erroneously, in 1897, the hotel at 123 Eddy had the name the "Columbia Hotel," as per the Crocker-Langley San Francisco Directory for the Year 1897, (p. 1987). A year, earlier, the Columbia Hotel operated at 18 1st Street in San Francisco. (See the Crocker-Langley San Francisco City Directory for the Year 1896, p. 1827.)

It was again listed as Hackmeier's Hotel in 1898. (See Crocker-Langley San Francisco Directory for the Year 1898, p. 1936.)

The United States Hotel stood at 123 Eddy Street in 1905. (See San Francisco City Directory, 1905, p. 2145.) It contained storefronts at 125, 127 and 129 Eddy.
