The 1905 San Francisco City Directory indicated that the Winchester Hotel occupied the street frontages from 44-68 3rd Street.

A newspaper article, "Newpspaper Row Is Gutted," published in the San Francisco Call on 04/19/1906, read: ""When the Winchester Hotel crumbled to ruins at 11 o'clock, the cafe in the top of the twenty-story Call building began to spout fire. At that time Market street as far as Seventh street was burning as a single block from the Bohemian Cafe." (See "Newspaper Row Is Gutted, San Francisco Call, vol. 99, no. 1, 04/19/1906, p. 2.)
