Overview

In 1872, the "New" Merchants Exchange Building stood on the south side of California Street between Sansome and Montgomery Streets in San Francisco's Financial District.

Building Notes

In 1871, the Home Mutual Insurance Company of California had its San Francisco office in the Merchants’ Exchange Building #2. (See Henry G. Langley, The San Francisco Directory for the Year Commencing April, 1871, [San Francisco: Henry G. Langley, Publisher, 1871], p. xiv.)

The Merchants' Exchange Building housed, in 1872, the Merchants Exchange Association, Joseph S. Coolidge, Secretary, and the Merchants' Exchange Bank of San Francisco, Levi Stevens, President, R.N. Van Brunt, Cashier. (See San Francisco Directory, 1872, p. 460.)
