This three-story Italianate business block stood on the northeast corner of California and Webb Streets, operating at this address from 1874 until 1892, at least.
Building History
The San Francisco Savings Bank had assets of $5,121,510.89 with a reserve fund of $213,792.38 in 1874. Its president was James De Fremery, its vice-president, Albert Miller. Lovell White was its cashier and secretary. Directors included C. Adolphe Low, Charles Baum, Washington Bartlett, George C. Potter, Charles Pace, Denis J. Oliver and Alexander Campbell. In 1892, Albert Miller served as President of the Savings Union, assisted by George W. Beaver, Vice-President, and Lovell White, Cashier and Secretary. Directors of the bank included (in addition to Miller, Beaver and White): George C. Boardman, Daniel E. Martin, Joseph G. Eastland, Thomas Magee, W.C.B. DeFremery, Charles Pace, and E.B. Pond. As of 06/30/1892, the San Francisco Savings Unikon had deposits of $25,890,653, and total assets of $27,589,181. (See Oakland, California, City Directory, 1892, front cover.)
Alteration
By 1900, the San Francisco Savings Union Bank Headquarters had been completely rebuilt; three floors were added and the exterior had been enlarged and remodeled, making it a different building entirely.
