An El Niño storm on 01/27/1983 caused significant damage to the Seal Beach Pier #2's pilings, removing a 120-foot section out of the center. According to Laylan Connelly, writing in the Orange County Register: "Residents formed a group called “Save Our Pier” and raised $83,000 for repairs. Together with county, state and federal funds, the pier was rebuilt over the next two years at the cost of about $1 million...."
