Overview

The Long Beach architectural firm of Wright and Gentry produced a design for the Figueroa Street Elementary School in 1925 for the Los Angeles Unified School District. The pair made a specialty of school design, producing more than 25 across Southern CA.

Alteration

Parker O. Wright made some structural alterations and additions to this school in 1934, probably to shore up damage sustained in the Long Beach Earthquake of 03/10/1933. The Architect and Engineer stated: "Extensive remodeling and structural changes will be made to the Figueroa Street school at 111th and Figueroa Streets, Los Angeles, from plans by Parker O. Wright, architect, and David H. Merrill, structural engineer, Los Angeles. The improvement will cost $65,000." (See "Los Angeles School Remodeling," Architect and Engineer, vol 116-117, 1934, p. 63.)
