Building History

Billionaire Ron Burkle purchased the Hope House in 06/2018 for $15 million, far below the initial $27.5 million asking price set in 2013. SFGate, com reported on 06/15/2018: "The buyer is billionaire philanthropist and investor Ron Burkle, whose intention not to demolish Hope's home earned him a sweet deal. The Bob and Dolores Hope Estate was originally listed in 2013 for $27.5 million, then reduced to $22 million, but Burkle purchased it for $15 million. Other developers had offered much more, but the Hope family wanted the home's legacy preserved." (See SFGate.com, "Bob Hope's Toluca Lake Estate Finally Sells—to Billionaire Ron Burkle," published 06/15/2018, accessed 06/19/2018.) Burkle also bought the Hopes' John Lautner-designed residence in Palm Springs in 2016 for a discounted price of $13 million, down from an original $50 million price tag.
