Overview

The City of Santa Monica, using funding derived from the developers of a high-cost condominium apartment building in the city, bought five lots interspersed in the Ocean Park neighborhood of Santa Monica. Two of the sites stood empty while three had "atypical" unoccupied residences on them. Forty-three one- to four-bedroom housing clusters were constructed on these five lots, the smallest of which, 642 Marine Street, contained four units. The five sites had a budget of $3.3 million, with a per-unit cost of $76,744.
