Overview

Green River Community College opened in the fall of 1965 with only one campus building, the Library Learning Center (LLC). Groundbreaking occurred for the library in 10/1964 and construction had been completed by 09/01/1965. At the beginning, the library housed everything including the book stacks, a reading room, administrative and faculty offices, 13 classrooms, the student center and cafeteria.

Building History

The building was named for Texas-born educator William Hayes Holman (1905-1995), the Superintendent of the Auburn School District from 1957-1969, who, along with Melvin Lindbloom, the first President of Green River Community College from 1964-1980, were two of the most significant figures in the establishment of the school.

Building Notes

When classes began in 1965, Washington-state residents paid $60 per quarter and non-residents, $150 per quarter, with $8 being the minimum class cost.
