Overview

This three-floor, Italian Romanesque school was built during the last cusp of prosperity in the 1920s, and possessed a steel and concrete structure, years before this seismically-resistant framing method became mandated by the Field Act. It cost $731,962 to build in 1929-1930 and was designed to accommodate 1,600 students. (SeeAnnual Report of the Public Schools of the City and County of San Francisco, 1929, [San Francisco (Calif.). Superintendent of Public Schools, 1929], p. 42.)
