Building History

This branch of the Los Angeles Public Library (LAPL) opened in 06/1902. An article announcing the opening of the Garvanza Branch Library appeared in the Los Angeles Herald: "The new Garvanza branch of the public library was opened last Monday in the room of the Garvanza Library association. The hours are from 6 to 9 p.m. Miss Hillis of the public library is the attendant. The old Garvanza library will be retained in the same room by the old management. The cost of building the new library will be met by private subscription. About four hundred books have already been supplied." (See "Garvanza," Los Angeles Herald, no. 257, 06/15/1902, p. 3.)
