The clothing merchant Paul Singerman (1847-1915), of the firm Toklas and Singerman, lived here in 1885. (See Seattle City Directory of 1885, p. 147.) His partner, Ferdinand Toklas (1845-1924), managed clothing operations in San Francisco.
