Overview

Civil Engineer Harold Ambrose Kiehl (1865-1942) lived in this simple board and batten house while he supervised the planning and construction of the US Army base, Fort Lawton, in the late 1890s. Kiehl also used the building as his office. It was his second residence in Seattle with his wife, Louisa Jean Stockand (1868-1917). Residing here for about two years, Kiehl moved from this house to another, larger and better appointed house on the Fort Lawton grounds by about 1899.
