Building History

According to a news story in the DT News.com , the owners of the City Towel Supply Company built their building in 1923, although the Los Angeles County Assessor indicated the construction date to have been 1921. (See Donna Evans, DT News, "Want to Buy a Skid Row Former Towel Factory?" published 11/20/2013, accessed 11/19/2015.) The owners of the the City Towel Supply Company Building also purchased the three-story industrial building next door

In 2013, owners of this former industrial building sought to sell it to provide market-rate or low-income housing. They asked$6.3 million for the property. At this time, it still wasnearly 60% occupied, by small manufacturing businesses or offices.

Building Notes

At some point, probably in the 1920s or 1930s, the Royal Wholesale Cigar Company occupied first-floor space in the City Towel Supply Company Building.
