Overview

Originially built for the outrageously rich banker William Sharon, Comstock Lode millionaire William S. O'Brien purchased this house by the 1860s. It became prime commercial property near Union Square and was demolished.

Alteration

From the look of the building, it appeared to have been built in incrimants, the front gabled portion first to which an Italinate rear section, stepping down a slope, was attached. The front gable section had a tall, glazed porch that wrapped around the front facade. This porch was probably added later, perhaps around the time of the Italianate addition.
