Building History
Charles R. Butler (born c. 1887 in PA) commissioned the construction of this Art Deco assembly hall that could be converted into a skating rink. Butler was an oil driller, who made money in the Signal Hill oil strike of 1921. In 1927, he was President of the Sandburg Petroleum Company, and by 1931, was President of the Signal Hill Oil Company of California.
