Overview

Seattle architect Kenneth E. Koehler (1920-1981) designed the 124-unit Brighton Place apartment complex completed in 1968, In 07/1999, the Southeast Seattle Senior Foundation (SSSF), formed in 1994 to alleviate "...the critical need for quality low- and moderate-income senior housing in Rainier Valley,." purchased the Brighton Apartment complex for the use of Rainier Valley residents 55 and older. (See "The Brighton: History," accessed 05/28/2015.) This new senior facility stood next to the Southeast Seattle Senior Center.

Building Notes

The Brighton contained 160,561 gross square feet, 140,835 net, and occupied a 3.95-acre property, The average size of an apartment in the 124-unit building was 1,136 square feet. In 2015, the Brighton contained 24 two-bedroom, 1.5-bath, 67 one-bedroom, 1-bath, and 33 3-bedroom, 1.5-bath units. Tel: 206.722.3922 (2015).

Alterations

Following the SSSF's acquisition of the Brighton, all common areas, the parking lot, and roof were renovated. A P-Patch garden, accessible for those in wheelchairs, was added for residents.
