Overview
Pioneer settler Clara J. Stanwood Pearson (1849-1910) campaigned for the construction of this two-story, L-shaped school in the 1880s. According to the web site, "Women's Stories--Women's Lives," an obituary in the local Stanwood Tidings newspaper said in 07/1910: "...Perhaps the most gratifying result of her efforts was the construction and building of the present public school building on North Street which she lived to see become a high school. At the time this school was thought of, Mrs. Pearson was elected director and against a large opposition she led the fight for the school and won." (See "Women's Stories--Women's Lives, The Women's Legacy Project of Snohomish County," Accessed 05/26/2015.) A cross-gabled design, the school had a notable bell tower located at the interior bend of its L-shape.
