Overview

Former WA Chief Justice and Seattle booster Thomas Burke (1849-1925) and his wife, Caroline McGilvra Burke (d. 1925), resided at this address in 1914. Judge Burke was active in Seattle politics and development for 50 years, from the 1875 until his death in 1925. He tried for many years to help get Seattle to be a transcontinental rail hub, and finally achieved this when he became the local representative of James J. Hill's Great Northern Railway.
