Overview
Erected in 1918, this small bungaloid house stood across the street from the University of Washington Campus for years, before being purchased by the ever-expanding organization in 1962. The house at 3945 15th Avenue NE was torn down to make way for a new station for the University Police Department in 2015.
Building History
The university indicated in a 2012 Environmental Report, done in preparation for demolition, that the interior lacked historical integrity, having been considerably altered over the years. This property, then one next door at 3937 15th Avenue NE and a parking lot to the south of Gould Hall were set aside for a new police station, designed by the Seattle architectural firm of Miller-Hull.
Building Notes
The house, raised on high foundations about 4 feet above the ground, had a simple hipped roof with a shed roof covering a projecting front porch. The front porch was supported by five studs placed in two paralled series on either side of the front steps. Composition shingles, unlike the wood ones that originally clad the house, sheathed the roofs, while clapboards, placed horizontally, shielded the walls. Most original wood-framed, double-hung windows had been replaced with low-cost, contermporary, vinyl ones.
Demolished
The house was torn down by Rhine Demolition, Incorporated, on 04/20/2015.
