The UW President's House was located between 4th and 5th Avenues, on the south side of Seneca Street.

Overview

This cross-gabled house accommodated the Presidents of the University of Washington and their families between 1861 and 1895. The Territorial University's Campus boundaries stood on north, University Street, and on the south, Seneca Street. The east and west edges consisted of the half-blocks below Fourth Avenue and above Fifth Avenue.

Building History

Classes began at the Territorial School of Washington 11/04/1861 on a campus that consisted of a main, two-story classroom building, the president's house, and a dormitory.

Building Notes

The UW President's House had simple styling suggestive of earlier, nineteenth century, Greek Revival architecture.
