Overview
Located in the Briarcrest tract of Shoreline, WA, the Briarcrest Elementary School opened in 1954, one of several schools the new district opened between 1953 and 1955. Briarcrest Elementary experienced rapid growth in the mid-1950s, necessitating an addition within two years of its establishment. It has been one of the longest operating schools in the Shoreline School District #412. In 2015, it accommodated 475 students in grades kindergarten through sixth, and had a focus on early education in technology. The Shoreline web site stated: "The school, just north of the Seattle city limits, seeks to integrate technology into all aspects of the learning process. All students are encouraged to continually develop their technology skills, including word processing, manipulating graphics and the use of the Internet for research." (See Shoreline School District #412, "Briarcrest Bulldogs," accessed 04/08/2015.)
