Overview
From at least 1890 until 1895, the Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA) had its facility at 1417 Front Street (later renamed 1st Avenue).. A segregated YMCA for Japanese men operated at 418 Jefferson Street, and the YMCA had an "athletic park" that stood between Remington Avenue and Willow, Kenney and Jones Streets.
Building Notes
In its earliest years in Seattle, the leadership of the YMCA changed frequently. In 1888, John B. Denny served as President of the Seattle YMCA, two years later, E.C. Kilbourne held the office, and in 1895, L.J. Colman had the position.
