This first office of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco occupied rented space in the Merchants National Bank of San Francisco, on the southeast corner of Market and New Montgomery Streets. The Federal Reserve leased space here from 1914 until 1924, when it moved into a new bank building at 400 Sansome Street designed by San Francisco architect George W. Kelham (1871-1936).
