The Builder and Contractor noted in its 08/07/1913 issue (p. 16), that Santa Ana architect Frederick H. Eley (1884-1979) had prepared plans for the new county hospital in Santa Ana. It recorded in a 07/1913 article: "Plans for hospital building by Santa Ana architect Frederick H. Eley; estimated cost $45,000." (See "County Hospital," Builder and Contractor, 07/10/1913, p. 11.)
The building was Neo-classical with an engaged pediment "supported" by engaged columns in the center. The first floor featured arched windows, the second, trabeated. A prominent belt course demarcated the first and second floors. A rooftop deck, where patients could receive heliotherapy treatments, had a pergola sheltering it. The complex had at least one complimentary Neo-classical building nearby, along with at least three bungalows on the grounds.
