Charles Careau operated the Saint Charles Hotel in the 1880s in Cheney, WA. (See "History of the State Normal School at Cheney, Washington,"Accessed 08/04/2014.) Careau was credited by early pioneer George Engel with building the first residence within the Cheney townsite, platted c. 1880.
