George Engel, a pioneering Euro-American settler in Cheney, WA, wrote of the Careau House: ""I hewed the logs for the first house in Cheney. This was in 1880, and the work was done for Charles Careau. In 1882 Lafe Harris moved this building out to where it stands at the present time and received $50 for the job."
