Overview

This residence was designed by architect Loren L. Rand for James and Elizabeth Comstock. He was an early merchant and real estate dealer in the city, and served on the city council and as mayor between 1899 and 1901. The Comstocks lived in this house for about five years, from 1905 until 1910, before building a new, larger dwelling at 1106 9th Avenue.

Building Notes

The house at 1128 West 9th Avenue, designed by Loren L. Rand, formed part of the Comstock-Shadle Historic District, a cluster of four Tudor Revival houses, listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1994. Architects Rand and Willis A. Ritchie (1864-1931) each designed two of the houses. The department store executive James A. Comstock lived at this address before moving to 1106 West 9th Avenue.
