This first high school in Alhambra opened in 1898, located on the site of the current high school campus.
Neo-classical in style, the Alhambra High School #1 had a symmetrical front facade with a projecting front portico and central dome with cupola. The school stood perched on tall foundations. A tall basement story, illuminated by windows, provided added classroom space. A balustrade trimmed the parapet on all four sides.
