General George E. Pickett came to the Pacific Northwest at the time of the most serious fighting between American Indians and white settlers in the early-to-mid 1850s. Picket erected this house while he supervised US Army protection of Bellingham Bay's Euro-American population. Pickett would go on to notoriety for "Pickett's Charge" a decisively Battle of Gettysburg.
