The Hotel Aetna placed a classified ad in the San Francisco Call in 05/13/1910, describing itself: "HOTEL AETNA, 1617 Pine st. nr. Van Ness av. Large outside rooms, hot and cold water, $3 per week; elegantly furnished suites, private baths, $25 per month and up." It charged considerably more than other San Francisco rooming houses or residential hotels for monthly rates, usually $5-$9 at the time, and was clearly aimed at a more affluent client.
