This apartment building was owned and operated by the Schmiedell Estate of San Francisco. Architect George H. Howard (1864-1935) married Antoinette "Nettie" W. Schmiedell (b. 1868), the daughter of Henry Schmiedell (d. 1894) and Fronie Warren Schmiedell. Henry was a San Francisco social insider, a wealthy broker, and the head of the brokerage house Schmiedell, Hochstadter and Company. Schmiedell was a charter member of the San Francisco Stock and Exchange Board and its Treasurer for 20 years.
