Building History
The Long Beach architectural firm Dedrick and Bobbe produced the design for this reinforced-concrete, Art Deco-influenced highrise.
Barker Brothers gained a reputation in Los Angeles as one of the more progressive furniture retailers since the 1920s; it offered Modern furniture lines and had in-house designers who could create custom designs for clients.
The store was abandoned from 1982-1994.
Demolition
Barker Brothers' Long Beach Store was demolished in 1994. It didn't meet contemporary seismic codes and became too expensive for its owners to retrofit.
