Overview

The Good Samaritan Medical Center, founded in 1885 as the Los Angeles Hospital and Home for Invalids, began its third main building phase in 11/1973. The previous Good Samaritan medical complex on this site was designed by Johnson, Kaufman and Coate in the mid-1920s.

Building Notes

In 2014, this non-profit hospital contained 408 beds, all with private rooms, and had 20 surgical suites. The staff stood at 1,300, with 450 nurses, and 52 residents/fellows. Surgeons performed 4,188 operations and the emergency room saw 25,400 patients. (See "Quick Facts,"Accessed 03/07/2014.)

Alteration

A new medical office building was built in 1981. Hospital administrators commissioned the creation of an outpatient surgery center in 1984. The campus had cardiothoracic and intensive care wings added in 1990.
