The Los Angeles City Directory of 1895 indicated that the County Hospital was located on Mission Road near S. Griffin Avenue, near its current location. (p. 1594)

Overview

Following a small pox epidemic that swept over Southern CA in 1877, the County of Los Angeles decided to erect its own public hospital. Previously, the Daughters of Charity of Saint Vincent de Paul operated the only infirmaries in the city.
